Diversity Committee & Profiles in Diversity

The Diversity Committee has been an active committee in the College of Education for a number of years. The goals of the committee are to:

  • Provide leadership on diversity, equity, and social justice so as to foster anti-discriminatory practices and build cultural proficiency across the college;
  • Promote attitudes that affirm, respect, and celebrate diversity and raise awareness about systemic forms of discrimination;
  • Maintain, implement, and assess progress for a multiyear diversity plan that outlines the diversity activities and expected outcomes for the College of Education, faculty, staff, and students;
  • Initiate and support activities that assist students, faculty, staff, and community partners with self-awareness, understanding, and appropriate interaction with culturally different and diverse individuals.

Profiles in Diversity Award

The Profiles in Diversity Award recognizes faculty or staff from across the College of Education (COE) for their commitment to issues of diversity, equity, and social justice in their life and work. When choosing recipients for this honor, the COE Diversity Committee considers a broad spectrum of nominees in order to recognize, highlight, and honor COE faculty and staff whose contributions:

  • Lead to new understandings of inequality
  • Enrich the lives of historically under-served populations
  • Advocate for and catalyze changes in oppressive social systems and structures, or
  • Push us towards the realization of equity within schools and communities.

Special attention is given to faculty and staff whose identities and work may have been historically marginalized in society and mainstream educational research and practice.
