What is Instructional Technology?

According to the Association of Educational Communications and Technology, “Instructional Technology is the theory and practice of design, development, utilization, management, and evaluation of processes and resources for learning (Seels & Richey, 1994).” The term Instructional Technology and Educational Technology are generally considered synonymous. “Educational technology is the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technology processes and resources (Januszewski & Molenda, 2008).”

Members of the instructional technology program are constantly experimenting with both new instructional strategies and technologies. Exploration and risk-taking are key.
