Partnership Teach offers affordable, high quality degree completion options for Special Education – General Curriculum as well as Special Education – Adapted Curriculum. Special education cohorts begin each summer.
The part-time models are designed to meet the needs of working adults. The special education coursework provided through the partnership is offered completely online. Throughout the programs, students are placed in public school classrooms to observe and practice the teaching methods learned in the online courses. A full-time internship in a public school classroom is required in the senior year.
The Bachelor of Science in Special Education – General Curriculum (GC) prepares students to work with children with disabilities who are ultimately pursuing a high school diploma and are studying in the general education curriculum. The courses in this program provide a common core of general knowledge and skills necessary for beginning teachers. Candidates in the special education GC program also complete all requirements for a Reading license. Under current requirements, students in the GC major may also obtain licensure in elementary education through testing.
The Bachelor of Science in Special Education – Adapted Curriculum (AC) prepares students to work with children with more significant cognitive disabilities who are pursuing an adapted curriculum. Program courses in AC provide a common core of the general knowledge and skills necessary for beginning teachers. Candidates in the special education AC program access a wide array of elective courses focused on related services such as social work, adapted physical education, recreation, sign language, or occupational therapy.
To join Partnership Teach, students must meet the requirements listed on the general description webpage as well as submit a Partnership Teach application to a Partnership Teach Coordinator and a freshman/transfer application to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at East Carolina University. Students must have access to reliable high-speed internet access and related technology to participate.
Cohorts must meet a minimum enrollment standard to begin annually.
