Mr. and Mrs. Edward and Sara Roos established the ECU College of Education Edward and Sara Roos Elementary Education Scholarship in 2021. This four year $20,000 scholarship award is available to five outstanding North Carolina high school seniors each year who wish to teach in an elementary classroom after graduation. The scholarship is modeled after the ECU Maynard Scholarship and as so, recipients will have a required on campus living component for the freshmen year, a four year programmatic component, and specific criteria for receiving funds.
Finalists will be required to attend an on-campus interview, provide additional academic information (fall semester transcript), and reference information (2 references in signed/sealed envelope) at the interview. Specific directions about the provision of this additional information will be sent to all candidates that advance to the interview level.

- Deadline – Scholarship applications will close at midnight on January 15.
Interviews
- Will be conducted in February as this scholarship is awarded to five students annually.
- Applicants selected for an interview will be notified by email and mail.
