MSITE – Gamma Chapter
The Gamma Chapter (sometimes known as the Mathematics Education Club) is a student affiliate of the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCCTM) which is an affiliate of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). This is a student organization that is devoted to issues related to teaching and learning mathematics at all grade levels. The goal of the chapter is to provide experiences and opportunities to assist students in becoming exemplary mathematics educators. Membership in the Gamma Chapter is free and the organization hosts monthly professional development meetings, makes plans for attending the annual conference of the NCCTM, encourages its members to get involved in mathematics education service (e.g., assisting with the annual Math Contest), and hosts an occasional social event.

The Gamma Chapter provides you an opportunity to learn more about mathematics and mathematics teaching with hosted educators and speakers. The Gamma Chapter is an excellent way for students to network and develop contacts that will help them in the teaching field. The Gamma Chapter is an excellent way for students to attend conferences like the annual meeting of the North Carolina Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The Gamma Chapter is an excellent way for students to develop leadership qualities that will prove essential in their future career as mathematics educators or teachers.
What are some of the Activities Engaged in by the Gamma Chapter?
Over the years, members of the Gamma Chapter have engaged in a number of activities:
- Hosted educators/speakers from counties and institutes in the United States
- Hosted a regional conference for math teachers and educators in the state of North Carolina
- Attended and or presented at the annual NCCTM state conference for teachers of mathematics
- Worked in volunteer oriented partnerships with teachers and organizations in Pitt County
