Community Outreach

MSITE faculty pride themselves on serving the community and they encourage the community to be involved in our programs. Parents of school-age children support interest in mathematics by encouraging their children to become involved in the Math Fair, compete in MathCounts, or participate in the Math Contest. The Summer Science Camp hosted by the department provides activities in science, and to a lesser degree mathematics, for rising second through eighth graders. Area teachers can be involved by participating in professional development delivered by the department faculty, the Center for STEM Education, or the Department of Public Instruction. Teachers are also are invaluable by mentoring students doing their field placements or internships. If you would like to be involved in any way and need information about the Math Fair, how to host a field placement student or participate in an IT internship, etc., please contact our Director of Students using the information in the Contact Us section. For information about the Center for STEM Education, please see the contact information in that section.

Center for Stem Education

The Center for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (C-STEM) facilitates many of the outreach programs for the MSITE department. The STEM Center is located near the ECU campus at the corner of 4th and Cotanche Street in downtown Greenville. The vision for the Center for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (C-STEM) is to leverage the resources of The University of North Carolina System, in partnership with the NC Department of Public Instruction (NC DPI), community, and schools to promote quantitative and scientific literacy for all North Carolina citizens. Through collaborations with these partners C-STEM translates the findings of educational research into best practices that benefit the science and mathematics education curriculum at all levels.
