Program Goals
Leadership Development
- Empower participants with essential leadership skills through professional development and mentorship opportunities.
- Cultivate a deep understanding of effective leadership practices within the context of higher education, and more specifically, the College of Education.
- Encourage the adoption of Future-Focused, Innovation-Driven strategies that anticipate and respond to the evolving needs of the educational landscape.
Strategic Alignment
Foster a commitment to advancing the college’s strategic priorities, including public service, student success and regional transformation
Community Building
- Create a supportive network of emerging leaders who can collaborate, share insights and support each other’s growth
- Promote a culture of continuous learning and professional development among participants.
Program Overview and Participant Experience
Participants in the COE Leadership Development Fellows receive individual mentoring, engage in group sessions, and lead their own project designed to support the college’s strategic plan. Participants may receive a stipend (contingent upon availability). Participants will be paired with a member of the leadership team aligned with their interests. This pairing will allow participants to gain insight and mentorship in their chosen area of interest.
Identifying Opportunities and Contributing to the Strategic Plan
Each participant will identify an opportunity within their assigned area that aligns with the college’s strategic plan. This opportunity will serve as the basis for a project that the participant will develop and implement. The project should be innovative and aim to make a meaningful contribution to the college’s goals.
Collaboration and Mentorship
Throughout the program, participants will work closely with a member of the COE leadership team who will provide mentorship and support. This collaboration will help participants refine their project ideas, navigate the complexities of implementation, and develop leadership skills. Participants will also engage in group professional development sessions led by higher education leaders.
Final Presentation
At the end of the Spring semester, participants will present their projects to the college community. This presentation will include an overview of the identified opportunity for college, the project’s objectives, the steps taken during implementation, and the project’s outcomes. This final presentation will be an opportunity to showcase the participants’ contributions and demonstrate how they have addressed a key area of the college’s strategic plan.
