What drew you to pursue your current degree?
I have always wanted to be a teacher because I had so many great role models in my life that were teachers. I want to be that for my students one day, and I love the variety of elementary education!
What made you decide to be an educator?
I decided to be an educator because I believe that education is the key to everything. I hope to share my love of learning with my future students.
Why did you choose ECU?
I am a 3rd generation Pirate! Six of my family members have gone to ECU, so it felt like coming home.
How did being a part of the Education Community of Scholars and living-learning community shape your college experience?
The ELLC and ECOS has given me an amazing support system that I would not have had without being a part of those organizations. I always have a peer or mentor to turn to if I need anything, or have any random questions. I am so grateful to be surrounded by so many amazing educators on a daily basis.
Do you have any advice for students looking to pursue an education degree?
Do it! I was always nervous that I might change my mind one day, but being in my classes and in my internship this semester has shown me that this is what I am called to do and it is so rewarding at the end of the day. The world of teaching and education is scary right now, but we need amazing teachers and amazing pre-service teachers that bring back that fire and drive that education needs right now!
Is there anything else you would like to say about ECU or pursuing an elementary education degree?
ECU, ELEM Ed, ELLC, and ECOS are some of the best decisions I ever made. I would not be where I am today without the support system that Dr. Manning and Mrs. Heather have helped me become apart of. Go Pirates!
