Supervisor Introduction
This site has been developed to provide training in Counseling Supervision Theory and Practice and information about expectations and requirements for ECU Counselor Education Clinical Experiences. It is intended for potential site supervisors of ECU Counselor Education practicum students and interns. However, the materials provided about Counseling Supervision Theory and Practice should also prove helpful to all counseling professionals hoping to serve as supervisors of counselors-in-training.
All Counselor Education students enrolled in practicum or internship must be supervised by an appropriately credentialed site supervisor. According to the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) 2016 Standards, site supervisors for students engaged in counseling clinical preparatory experiences must meet the following qualifications:
- Hold a minimum of a master’s degree, preferably in counseling, or a related profession
- Hold relevant certifications and/or licenses
- Have a minimum of two years of pertinent professional experience in the specialty area in which the student is enrolled
- Demonstrate knowledge of the program’s expectations, requirements, and evaluation procedures for students
- Have relevant training in counseling supervision
This link shares training material relevant to the theory and process of counseling supervision. In order to review program specific clinical experiences information, the Clinical Experiences Coordinator will schedule time with each site supervisor prior to the beginning of the student’s practicum or internship semester. Also, please note that each practicum student or intern is responsible for submitting forms through the program’s clinical experience software, Tevera, to obtain information from potential site supervisors about the new site and supervisor’s professional credentials. Meeting with the Clinical Experiences Coordinator and submitting site information and professional credentials through Tevera must occur for a site supervisor to be approved.
