What’s your favorite memory from your time at ECU? My favorite memory from my time at ECU is traveling with the Education Living-Learning Community to England, France, and Italy this past May. We were able to visit many amazing historical locations and learn about schools in different cultures.

What inspired you to pursue a career in education?

My family has been a tremendous influence. Coming from a long line of educators, including my grandmother, mother, aunt, uncle, and cousin, I’ve always been surrounded by people passionate about education. Their dedication and experiences have not only inspired me but also guided me throughout my own journey.

A high school history teacher’s influence helped me embrace the idea of becoming a teacher—something I never expected to pursue. I would not be the person I am today without her. I reached a point where I knew I was truly called to be in education. I had been running from it, but I realized I wanted to make the same impact she made on me—helping students grow into the people they are meant to be.

Who has made the biggest impact on your journey here? Dr. Dionna Manning has made the biggest impact on my journey at ECU. She became not only my program coordinator, but also my “college mom” and mentor. Her guidance, encouragement, and unwavering support have helped shape both my personal and professional growth. I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without her influence.

What’s next after graduation? After graduation, I plan to pursue my master’s degree in communications at ECU, while working as a graduate assistant within the College of Education.

What advice would you give to future College of Education students? Take advantage of your resources! Your professors, advisors, and peers are there to support you—don’t be afraid to ask for help. Get involved, stay organized, and always remember your “why” for going into education. It will keep you grounded and motivated on the hardest days.

How has the College of Education prepared you for the classroom (or your next step?)

The College of Education has equipped me with the skills, confidence, and real-world experience needed to take the next step in my journey. From engaging coursework and hands-on field placements to faculty who truly invest in your success, I’ve grown both professionally and personally. This foundation has not only prepared me for the classroom but has also inspired my decision to pursue a graduate degree in communications at ECU. I’m excited to continue working within the College of Education —sharing the stories and impact of a program that has meant so much to me.
