Major/Degree Program: MAEd in Elementary Education with a certificate in teaching children in poverty
Hometown/Current City: Cameron, NC

What’s your favorite memory from your time at ECU? Bonding with classmates.
What inspired you to pursue a career in education? I’ve always had a love for learning. Pursuing a career in education was an easy choice for me.
Who has made the biggest impact on your journey here? Dr. Gregory, Dr. Stanley, and Dr. Gonzalez. They have been my biggest supporters.
What’s next after graduation? After graduation I will be returning to ECU to complete the Doctoral program.
What advice would you give to future College of Education students? I would tell them to really become invested in the work/projects. On the surface it seems like A LOT of work (which it is). However, each assignment helps develop skills necessary to be successful in your career. There is no “busy work” in the courses. Each assignment is strategically placed in the curriculum to take you to the next level.
How has the College of Education prepared you for the classroom? The College of Education has given me tools and resources that have already begun improving my interactions and lessons within my classroom. I will continue to use the knowledge I’ve gained to support my students.
From Dr. Kristen Gregory (associate professor in elementary education): Jameesa is the epitome of a pirate educator. After completing her BS in Education at ECU and teaching in the elementary classroom, she returned to ECU for graduate school. She excelled throughout her MAEd Elementary Education and Teaching Children in Poverty Certificate programs due to her dedication, curiosity, persistence, classroom experience, and work ethic. Jameesa took on the extra challenging of completing a thesis and will defend in May. Her thesis is a qualitative ethnographic study focusing on language acquisition among siblings who are in an impoverished, rural community. We know that Jameesa will do GREAT things post graduation and will continue to positively impact students, families, and the community.
