Adult Education Faculty Recognized at National Adult Education Conference
Several faculty members in the Adult Education program were recognized for their achievements at the American Association for Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE)’s 67th Annual Conference, held October 2-5, 2018, in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Dr. Christy Rhodes, Assistant Professor of Adult Education, was presented with the President’s Appreciation Award for her outstanding contributions to the association in 2018. Dr. Rhodes served as conference planning chair in both 2017 and 2018, and has been active on the AAACE Board of Directors during that time, as well, as co-chair of AAACE’s Commission for Adult Basic Education and Literacy.
Dr. Rhodes also received the AAACE Commission of Professors of Adult Education’s Early Career Award. The Early Career Award honors individuals who are in the early stages of their academic career, and who have made significant contributions in scholarship and service to the field.
Dr. Kathy Lohr, Teaching Assistant Professor of Adult Education, was awarded the AAACE Commission for Distance Learning and Technology (CDLT)’s Best Practices in Distance Learning Award for her work on student biographical reflections in the building of online learning communities. One of the goals of the AAACE’s Commission for Distance Learning and Technology (CDLT) is to provide members with opportunities to share best practices and research on how adults are learning in networked and other technological learning environments. This award is to honor those best practices.
Dr. Xi Lin, Assistant Professor of Adult Education, received the Best Visual Presentation award for her poster session entitled “Career Development through Technology, Networking and Mentoring”.
Dr. Steven Schmidt, Professor of Adult Education was elected as chair of AAACE’s Commission of Professors of Adult Education at the conference, as well. He started his two-year term as commission chair at the conference.
The American Association for Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE) is a global organization focused on providing leadership for the field of adult and continuing education by expanding opportunities for adult growth and development; unifying adult educators; fostering the development and dissemination of theory, research, information, and best practices; promoting identity and standards for the profession; and advocating relevant public policy and social change initiatives.
