Counselor Education Program welcomes new faculty

The Counselor Education Program is excited to have two new tenure-track faculty join the program

Dr. Janee Avent

Dr. Avent received her Doctorate of Philosophy in Counseling and Counselor Education and Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Counseling at The University of Texas at San Antonio for three years prior to coming to ECU. Her research interests include: examining the role of religion/spirituality in African American mental health help-seeking behaviors, counselor training and clinical supervision, and multicultural considerations in counselor education/academia. She is excited to become a part of the ECU community.

Dr. Loni Crumb

Dr. Crumb received her Ph.D. in Counseling and Student Personnel Services from the University of Georgia, M.A. in Education and Community Counseling from Clark Atlanta University, and B.A. in Psychology from North Carolina State University. Dr. Crumb served as Director of Student Development and Counseling in the College of Nursing at ECU and as a College Counselor at Georgia State University – Perimeter College prior to joining the Counselor Education faculty at ECU.  She has authored scholarly publications and professional presentations related to counseling and wellness, student affairs in higher education, and holistic college student development. Research interests include counseling in rural areas, promoting retention and persistence of underserved students in higher education, college student mental health, social justice and multicultural training, and professional standards of practice in college counseling.
