Faculty Profile: Xi Lin

Name: Xi Lin
Title & Department:
Associate Professor, Department of Interdisciplinary Professions
What does your new role as director of graduate programs involve, and what are you most looking forward to in the position?
Many fun projects! To name a few:
- Global Teaching Partners (GTP): We hope to recruit more international fellows to participate in our courses and College. International fellows bring diverse perspectives and experiences, which can enrich our learning community and help expand our College’s global connections.
- Graduate Assistantships: We are looking forward to launching a website specifically for COE graduate assistantship applications, recruitment, and related information. We hope this will make the process more accessible for future and current COE graduate assistants, as well as for our faculty.
- Graduate Program Communication and/or Newsletters: We also plan to provide the COE Graduate Programs Newsletter as an actionable, time-sensitive counterpart, focusing on funding, assistantships, and other opportunity deadlines students need to act on. Stay tuned!
And these are just the beginning! While working with Dr. Holly Fales, we look forward to taking on more fun and meaningful projects together.
What are some of your goals for your first year in this role?
One major goal is to successfully launch the graduate assistantship website for our College. I also hope to contribute recruiting more international fellows for our Global Teaching Partners program. I will certainly give it my best shot!
What are you hoping to bring to the role based on your experience at ECU?
I hope my experience with international collaboration will help support the recruitment and retention of Global Teaching Partners. Moreover, I hope I can contribute to a smooth and successful launch of our COE graduate assistantship website.
What excites you most about the opportunity to serve in this new capacity?
I am most excited about the opportunity to contribute to our faculty and students in new ways and to help strengthen the College of Education’s connections and influence worldwide.
What’s something fun or unique you’d like people to know about you?
I usually end up on a 17+ hour international flight once or twice a year. After enough practice, I have become pretty good at managing jet lag. With about a 12-hour time difference between the U.S. and some of my usual—actually, must-visit—destinations, I can beat jet lag within 5 days (It takes your body about one full day to adjust to each hour of time difference), no matter where I go or how far I travel!
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love playing video games! But I am now still gathering the courage to play Resident Evil in VR. Maybe one day—I just need a little more courage… or a lot more!
