Future educators build community through scholar and Teaching Fellows meetings

The College of Education continued welcoming its newest future educators Wednesday, August 12, with meetings for incoming College of Education scholars and North Carolina Teaching Fellows.

The meetings provided an opportunity for students to connect with others who are beginning their teacher education journey at East Carolina University and to learn more about the communities and opportunities available to them as they begin their college experience.

For students arriving on campus this week, these gatherings are an important next step following August 11’s Teacher Education Kickoff Welcome. After meeting College of Education administrators, staff, mentors and fellow students during the kickoff, incoming scholars and Teaching Fellows are continuing to build relationships and learn more about what it means to be part of a community of future educators.

The College of Education scholars and North Carolina Teaching Fellows programs provide students with opportunities to grow academically, professionally and as leaders while preparing for careers in education. Bringing students together early in their ECU experience helps establish connections that can continue throughout their college careers.

The meetings are part of a larger week of intentional programming coordinated by the College of Education Office of Student Success. The week is designed to help incoming students transition to campus, develop a strong peer community and begin engaging with the academic and professional opportunities that will support them as future educators.

From the first preparations before students arrived to the conversations happening across campus today, the week reflects the College of Education’s commitment to welcoming students with connection, support and a clear sense of purpose.

For the newest members of the Pirate Educator community, the journey is already underway.
