Logan Davis – Spring 2026 Graduate

Name:
Logan Davis
Major/Degree Program:
Secondary English Education/English
Hometown/Current City:
I don’t have a hometown, but I’ve been in Greenville for about 5 years now for college.
Hobbies/Interest:
I love prehistory (specifically the Cambrian period), evolutionary biology, trying new foods, video games, and obviously literature!
What’s your favorite memory from your time at ECU?
This is more of a collection of memories than a single one, but I will always remember my walk to and from class. I would park downtown and then walk through the park-like common area on campus. I remember looking up through the sheer canopy the lofty trees overhead created. Rays of sunshine peeking through as I walked to and from class. Through first days and exam weeks those trees remained unchanged, albeit occasionally losing their leaves. I think after a while they kept me grounded.
What inspired you to pursue a career in education?
A blend of amazing teachers and being bored in school set me on my path to becoming a teacher. I was a talkative child (friends of mine would say I still am!), and I remember my 3rd grade teaching being sick of it. After incessantly disrupting the class, I remember my 3rd grade teacher saying, “Logan, if you’re not going to shut up you could at least say something useful. Go help so and so with their…” Quickly after that, I came to love being a mini-tutor to my peers. I moved around a lot as a kid, so I was able to see a wide variety of teachers throughout my education. It was the teachers who went the extra mile, the teachers who took that extra step, the teachers who refused to give up on students no matter what that fueled my desire to be a teacher. I remember asking my 7th grade science teacher why he bothered to go the extra mile for the students who every obviously didn’t give a crap about Earth Science. He said something along the lines of, “You never know what someone’s going through at home. All I can do is make sure that I can go home at the end of the day knowing I did the best that I could for ALL of my students.” He wasn’t the first, nor the last teacher to make a difference in my life, but his words continue to push me to be the very best educator I can.
Who has made the biggest impact on your journey here?
I’ve thought long and hard about this question, and honestly, I cannot answer it. Every single person I’ve worked with at ECU has changed me for the better. Whether they were a professor I had for one semester or a professor I had throughout my entire time at ECU (shoutout Todd), I can honestly say I wouldn’t be where I am without them. Alongside the wonderful professors I’ve worked with, my peers have continuously carried me through my education. Whether it was through simple words of encouragement or late-night GroupMe study sessions, every single person has helped me reach this moment.
What’s next after graduation?
Just as I procrastinated every project or paper throughout my ECU career, I still have not finalized this decision. My fiancée and I are still trying to find the perfect place to start our next chapter, but I do know one thing. I will teach. Through my teaching, I hope to continue learning and to grow into the very best teacher I can be!
What advice would you give to future College of Education students?
You got this! There will be stress, there will be hardship, and most of all there will be anxiety! In the wise words of Todd Finley, “That anxiety shows you care about what you’re doing.” Chase that feeling, and use it to fuel your own success.
How has the College of Education prepared you for the classroom (or your next step)?
If you told me 3 years ago I would be rocking my internship and having some of the most fun of my entire life, I would have called you crazy. I was so scared that I was going to mess up. I was terrified that I wasn’t going to be good enough. The College of Education gave me the resources, mentors, and opportunities I needed to confidently say, “I got this!”.
