Hobbies/interests:

I enjoy dancing and painting, as both give me an outlet to be creative and express myself in unique ways. Dancing allows me to feel energized and free, while painting gives me a sense of calm and focus. Throughout my college journey, these hobbies have been a meaningful way for me to relax, recharge, and stay inspired. They’ve helped me maintain balance and reminded me of the importance of creativity which is something I hope to bring into my future classroom as well.

What’s your favorite memory from your time at ECU?

While being an online student has limited my time physically on campus, some of my favorite memories come from the connections I’ve made through virtual meetings, group projects, and occasional in-person opportunities. No matter the setting, the atmosphere has always been welcoming, supportive, and encouraging. Those moments of connection with classmates and professors have made my experience truly meaningful.

What inspired you to pursue a career in education?

I was inspired to pursue a career in education because of my deep love for working with children and the impact that teachers can have on their lives. I have always wanted to be a teacher, and one of the biggest influences on this decision was my 3rd grade teacher. She created a classroom environment where I always felt safe, encouraged, and excited to learn. She took the time to truly understand each of her students and made us feel seen and valued. I remember how she celebrated our successes, no matter how small, and always encouraged us to believe in ourselves. She made learning fun and meaningful, and because of her, I began to see school as a place where I could grow and succeed. Her kindness, patience, and passion left a lasting impression on me, and she became someone I looked up to from a young age. That experience stayed with me over the years and played a big role in shaping who I am today. It inspired me to want to create that same kind of environment for my own students. I want to be the kind of teacher who makes a lasting difference, just like she did for me.

Who has made the biggest impact on your journey here?

Both my family and my advisor have made a lasting impact on my journey. My family has been my biggest source of strength and encouragement throughout this entire process. They have always believed in me, even during moments when I doubted myself, and continuously reminded me why I started. Their support, patience, and constant motivation have helped me push through challenges and stay focused on my goals. My advisor has also played a significant role in my success. From the very beginning, she has been a steady source of guidance and reassurance. Whether I had questions, concerns, or just needed direction, she was always there to help me navigate the program. Her support made the process feel less overwhelming and helped me stay confident that I was on the right path. Having both my family and my advisor in my corner has truly made all the difference, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without their encouragement and guidance.

What’s next after graduation?

After graduation, I plan to begin my career in teaching in my hometown, in one of the schools I attended as a child. I’m excited to step into my own classroom, build relationships with my students, and create a positive learning environment where they feel supported and encouraged to succeed.

What advice would you give to future College of Education students?

Stay organized, manage your time well, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Building relationships with your professors and classmates can make a big difference in your experience. Also, remember why you chose education in the first place; keeping that passion in mind will help you stay motivated throughout the program.

How has the College of Education prepared you for the classroom (or your next step)?

The College of Education has prepared me by giving me both the knowledge and practical skills needed to be successful in the classroom. Through coursework, field experiences, and collaboration with peers and instructors, I’ve gained a strong understanding of teaching strategies, classroom management, and student engagement. I feel confident and ready to take the next step into my teaching career.
