What’s your favorite memory from your time at ECU?

I can’t think of just one favorite memory of my time in the MLS department; there have been so many. My favorite memory was when I attended the North Carolina Library Association biannual conference and presented a poster about a peer mentorship program I co-created.

What inspired you to pursue a career in education?

I’ve been in school my whole life; I don’t know what life is like without summers off. One day, I decided to become a librarian, and I’ve never looked back. This has been the best decision I’ve ever made for myself.

Who has made the biggest impact on your journey here?

The MLS program faculty have been incredibly supportive during my time in the program, but I have to say that Drs. Kawanna Bright and Heather Seibert have been the biggest influences in my life and my journey to become a librarian.

What’s next after graduation?

I’m already working at my dream job as a school librarian in Charlotte. But, with the not so gentle nudging from Drs. Bright and Seibert, my next goal is to be a PhD candidate in the near future.

What advice would you give to future College of Education students?

Get to know your professors! They can open so many doors for you and push you in all the best ways to be the best versions of yourself.

How has the College of Education prepared you for the classroom (or your next step)?

The rigor, high expectations, and support have given me the tools I need to be a school librarian. My library science classes have prepared me to advocate for my students, libraries, and myself. I have been empowered to pass along the lifelong love of reading and learning to my students.
