What’s your favorite memory from your time at ECU?

My favorite memory is the Whale of a Tale study abroad trip to Baja California, Mexico. It was beautiful to be surrounded by the gray whales after studying their history throughout the course.

What inspired you to pursue a career in education?

I have always wanted to be a teacher since I was five years old. I would ask for chalkboards and things like that for Christmas so that I could play teacher. I have been blessed by my parents to support my passion, as well as by wonderful teachers along my educational journey. Teaching is a passion that has stayed with me and continues to do so after 21 years in the classroom.

Who has made the biggest impact on your journey here?

I have had amazing professors at ECU who made a lasting impact on me, while continuing to push me to try new ideas and adventures. Dr. Lee and Professor Glass have been a huge support in this program. They are true advocates for teachers and the educational field. My husband and children also have impacted my journey by encouraging me and being patient as I worked on assignments.

What’s next after graduation?

For now, I am going to continue my passion for teaching eighth-grade science at Fuquay-Varina Middle School. I love what I do, and every day is a new adventure. I don’t know what the future will hold, but I hope to continue to impact the educational field.

What advice would you give to future College of Education students?  My advice would be to push yourself out of your comfort zone and try new adventures.  You don’t know how something will go unless you try. We learn from lessons that don’t go perfectly.  🙂

How has the College of Education prepared you for the classroom (or your next step)?

The ECU College of Education has prepared me by allowing me to try new technologies, create new lessons, and continue to be a lifelong learner.
