Intended Major: elementary education

Reason for choosing education:

I chose education because I have always been passionate about demonstrating kindness to those who don’t experience it often. As someone who wants to teach elementary/early childhood, I always think about how most of these kids come to school as an escape from what goes on at home. Not only do I want to teach them their ABC’s, but I also want to teach them “I need to love me”. It is more than important to have educators that are empathetic, who “know their learners”.

Why did you choose ECU?

I chose ECU several years ago after attending a P.I.R.A.T.E program. Seeing so many people who were also passionate about the same things I was really changed my mindset. As I discovered that I wanted to teach I had several hardships with people telling me the negatives about education, but through every step I took there was always a support system that felt like family to back me up. They always pushed me to reach my goals and follow my dreams of being an educator.

What is your favorite thing about ECU?

My favorite part of ECU is the campus. I love walking to class and sitting outside being that it is so beautiful. I also enjoy all of my classes and find studying easy when you do something that you love. As someone who is in the LLC I see many of my peers around campus frequently who are always so kind and never fail to put a smile on my face. This makes me want to get up in the morning, attend class, and be the best version of me.
