Brown, Fears to serve on NCCA board

Two counselor education faculty members will hold officer positions on the 2024-2025 North Carolina Counseling Association board. Dr. Shanita Brown will serve as the President Elect and Dr. Allison Fears will serve as the Secretary.

Dr. Shanita Brown

Brown is a teaching assistant professor and her research interests include examining the domestic violence experiences of Black women of faith, trauma-informed practices and collegiate mental health. She spearheaded the ACA’s Intimate Partner Violence Interest Network and NCCA’s Don C. Locke Multicultural & Social Justice Award. Additionally, Brown is an award-winning EMDR-trained licensed clinical mental health counselor and owner of a private practice.

Fears is an assistant professor and, prior to pursuing her doctoral degree, she was a school counselor in North Carolina. Her passions include training school counselors and clinical mental health counselors for the unique experiences and challenges that occur in rural areas in addition to preparing school counselors to implement antiracist practices.
