School Counselor Spotlight: Nedra Bruner Jones
A school counselor is an important role in a school community and Ms. Nedra Bruner Jones is an integral part of the ECU Community School. A native of Salisbury, North Carolina, Jones received her bachelor’s degree in family and community services and a master’s in counselor education.
“Being a high school teacher, I loved the rapport and relationships I had with my students and wanted to be in a position to assist them in ways that teachers aren’t able to do,” she said.
Bruner Jones’ favorite part about her work at the ECU Community School is working with all of the scholars and their families as well as her IHC team.
When asked what she would tell students who are thinking about pursuing a career in school counseling, Jones advised, “This is a work of HEART and you must prioritize self-care and boundaries.”
