College of Education sponsors four emerging scholars

The East Carolina University College of Education sponsored four scholars during the 2023 Emerging Scholars Symposium, a four-day program for scholars nearing the end of their terminal degree studies and recent graduates.

Participants presented their research to faculty, staff and students, networked with academic leaders and learned more about what life as a faculty member at ECU is like. Scholars sponsored by the COE were able to gather for a luncheon in the Speight Building with college leadership and faculty to ask questions about their ECU experiences.

The scholars that the COE sponsored were:

Dr. Paige Kinnaird received an Ed.D. in educational administration from the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York. Kinnaird presented on “The School Improvement Process – Creating Change Within The Accountability Policy-to-Practice Pipeline.” This presentation aligned with ECU’s mission to increase access and success for all learners through innovative teaching research and creative activities.

Anayah Walker is finishing an Ed.D. in educational program development at the University of South Florida. Walker presented on “A Literature Review: The Lived Experiences of Black Women in Doctoral Programs Pursuing Tenure Track Faculty Careers at Research Universities in the United States.” This presentation aligned with ECU’s mission to strengthen graduation and retention strategies while closing equity gaps to advance student achievement and enhance opportunity for all learners.

Dr. Alicia McKinzy received an Ed.D. in counselor education from Texas Southern University. McKinzy presented on “The Influence of Role Stress and School-Related Factors on the General Perceived Self-Efficacy of Elementary School Counselors.” This presentation aligned with ECU’s mission to strengthen graduation and retention strategies while closing equity gaps to advance student achievement and enhance opportunity for all learners.

Xintian Tu is finishing a Ph.D. in learning sciences from Indiana University. Tu presented on “Designing the Technology-Enhanced Environment for Next-Generation.” This presentation aligned with ECU’s mission to increase access and success for all learners through innovative teaching research and creative activities.
