Why did you choose to be an educator/professor?
I chose to be an educator because I want to ensure ALL students have access to high quality mathematics instruction. As an elementary teacher, I worked with students and families to ensure students could understand and apply the mathematics that was taught in schools while leveraging their home languages and funds of knowledge. I decided to become a teacher educator so that I could help more teachers do the same type of work with even more students.
What do you love about ECU?
I love the people at ECU. The other professors and instructors truly care about the students, both at ECU and in the K-12 schools. The ECU students in the College of Education are committed to providing equitable instruction. This gives me so much hope for the future of North Carolina schools.
