Name: Nicole Silva
Hometown: Greenville, NC
Major/Degrees: Elementary Education with a concentration in reading and I also completed my TESOL certificate (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)
Why did you choose education: I chose education because I had neighbors who were Mexican and didn’t speak any English, so when I was 12 or 13, I tutored their son in learning to read and learning to spell. I would love on Fridays when they would come over and tell me that he passed his spelling test and how appreciative they were of me to help their son. Since then I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I loved the feeling of helping someone learn!
What do you love about ECU: I love all of the connections and opportunities I’ve been given through my LLC & my Education Community of Scholars. I love making those connections and I love how Dr. Manning and Ms. Heather make it feel personal and like home.
