IDP announces diversity, equity & inclusion scholarship
The Department of Interdisciplinary Professions created a new scholarship to support graduate students in the department.
The IDP Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Graduate Student Scholarship is for talented, eligible graduate students from historically underrepresented, diverse or marginalized backgrounds to enhance diversity and educational experiences for all.
The first round of scholarships was given to one student in each of the department’s three programs — adult education, counselor education and library science.
Nicole Donald is a counselor education student specializing in clinical mental health counseling. Nicole’s passion is to work with adults diagnosed with a variety of mental and emotional issues as well as promote mental health and wellness. She is a strong advocate for mental health and strives to educate the community, reduce stigma, and create positive change in mental health.
Candace Jacobs is a second-year student in the Master of Library Science program with a concentration in academic librarianship. Her concentration helps her to develop her research interests so that she can be of service to her future university and the field of library science. It is her goal to become an academic librarian and to perform outreach to the local community concerning literacy, cultural awareness and appreciation, and academic assistance.
Adriana B. Pelaez is a graduate student in the adult education master’s program. She is also pursuing two certificate programs — community college instruction and education in the healthcare professions. Adriana also works full-time as a transition coordinator for wounded, ill, and injured service members, helping them establish their next chapter in life. Having worked with the military for over fifteen years, she would like to pursue jobs that allow her to continue to assist service members in any capacity. Though this is her passion, she comes with an open mind and will consider any paths that become available upon graduation.
