Kappa Delta Pi initiates 18 new members
East Carolina University College of Education’s Eta Chi chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, an international honor society in education, initiated 18 new members on Nov. 12.
As part of the ceremony, initiates received purple and green KDP honor cords to wear at their graduation.
The ceremony was led by Drs. Monica Gonzalez and Kristen Gregory, the counselors for the Eta Chi chapter. Dr. Gonzalez is an assistant professor in the COE’s Department of Mathematics, Science, and Instructional Technology Education. Dr. Gregory is an assistant professor in the Department of Elementary Education and Middle Grades Education.
This semester’s keynote speaker was Dr. Christina Tschida, an associate professor in the COE’s Department of Elementary Education and Middle Grades Education. Dr. Tschida previously served as a counselor to the Eta Chi chapter.
Kappa Delta Pi was founded by William Bagley, Truman Kelly, and Thomas Edgar Musselman in 1911 at the University of Illinois to foster excellence in education and promote fellowship among those dedicated to teaching. The society has continued to grow for more than a century with outstanding members such as Albert Einstein, George Washington Carver, and Eleanor Roosevelt. Today, it is an international organization with more than 1.2 million members. The Eta Chi chapter was installed at East Carolina University in May 1953.
