Jasmine Garland McKinney receives National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) Minority Fellowship

The ECU COE Counselor Education Program is pleased to announce that Jasmine Garland McKinney is a 2019 recipient of the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) Minority Fellowship in

the amount of $10,000. This fellowship will afford Jasmine opportunities to further establish her counseling identity by attending conferences, trainings, and other professional development opportunities. Upon graduating from the Counselor Education program at East Carolina University, Jasmine hopes to pursue doctoral studies to increase research in the counseling profession on perinatal trauma and the association between African American women, their mental health, and pregnancy complications. In addition, Jasmine is passionate about decreasing mental health stigma and health disparities in African American communities and is currently researching religious coping and preferences for treatment through her graduate research assistantship.
