Kappa Delta Pi Initiation Held

The Eta Chi Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), International Honor Society in Education, at ECU’s College of Education recently initiated nine undergraduate students. All nine initiates will wear purple and green KDP honor cords when they graduate on May 3, 2019.

Dr. Caitlin Ryan, Associate Professor in the Department of Literacy Studies, English Education and History Education, was the guest speaker at the ceremony. She was joined at ceremony by: Dr. Christina Tschida, Associate Professor in the Department of Elementary Education and Middle Grades Education; Dr. Monica Gonzalez, Assistant Professor Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics, Science and Instructional Technology Education; (MSITE) and Dr. Kristen Gregory, Assistant Professor in the Department of Elementary Education and Middle Grades Education. Dr. Ryan and Dr. Tschida were past counselors to the Eta Chi Chapter. Dr. Gonzalez and Dr. Gregory have taken on the role of KDP Counselors and have exciting plans for the chapter in the coming year.

Kappa Delta Pi was founded on March 8, 1911, at the University of Illinois to foster excellence in education and promote fellowship among those dedicated to teaching. The Society was incorporated on June 8, 1911.  Today, KDP is an international organization with an initiated membership exceeding 1.2 million. The Eta Chi Chapter was installed at East Carolina University in May, 1953.
