Fales and Wilson present on Mursion at International Technology, Education and Development conference

In March, ECU, the College of Education, Mursion@ECU, and REI were well represented at the 13th annual International Technology, Education, and Development (INTED) 2019 conference in Valencia, Spain where Mursion Coordinator Christine Wilson and ECU’s Assessment, Data Management, and Digital Learning Director Holly Fales presented three papers.

The theme of the conference was “Exploring New Frontiers in Education,” and throughout the conference, numerous speakers discussed topics and shared innovative ideas on education, technology, and their integration.

Christine Wilson at INTED 2019Wilson presented two papers. The first was part of an American Athletic (AAC) Grant she has been working on with Todd Fraley (Honors College), Stacy Warner (College of Health and Human Performance), Michael Catalano (School of Communication), and Gareth Jones (Temple University). The team studied the use of Mursion® to allow athletes the opportunity to practice difficult conversations with coaches. It was entitled: Developing Student-Athlete Communication Skills through Immersive Simulation Experiences.

Wilson’s second presentation was on a paper co-authored by Kristen Cuthrell as part of the Rural Education Institute entitled: Simulation in Education around the Globe: A Game-changer for Preparing Future Teachers: Rural Education. Wilson also chaired the session “Enhancing the Teaching Experiences,” which included presentations from speakers from seven countries.

Holly Fales at INTED 2019Fales presented her paper that was part of the National Science Foundation (NSF) Project INTERSECT grant she has been working on with Wilson, Dan Dickerson, Carrie Lee, Tammy Lee, and Ricky Castles (College of Engineering and Technology) entitled: Using Immersive Simulations to Practice Talk Moves in Elementary Math and Science Education. She shared findings of the use of Mursion® in training elementary pre-service teachers to practice Teacher Moves in science or math.

The INTED conference is a unique event held annually in Spain that brings together over 700 participants from 75 different countries to discuss and present on various inspiring and innovative topics on education and technology.  The conference gives attendees the chance to meet and network with partners and educators around the world and “Explore New Frontiers in Education.”

It was an honor to attend this exciting and inspirational conference, in which our attendees brought back great informational ideas and insight on the important topics of education. The conference also gave Fales and Wilson the chance to share what our Mursion® program has been creating. We hope to have the opportunity to attend and present at next year’s conference!
