COE Rural Education Institute Update

Rural Education Institute’s faculty, Kristen Cuthrell (REI Interim Director), Loni Crumb (Department of Interdisciplinary Professional

Bounce Back Training

Studies), and Martin Reardon (Department of Educational Leadership) recently connected with the faculty and staff at Pines Elementary School in rural Washington County to provide training on trauma-informed practices that build resiliency in children. The Bounce Back training involved two days of engagement in research-based practice for the school’s administrators, teachers, teacher assistants, as well as the school social worker and school counselor. The training is a part of a Department of Public Instruction School Safety grant that was awarded to faculty associates within REI. Participants at Pines Elementary shared the following positive comments about the training, “I thought that it was full of lots of information and help me to see the need for this to happen at this school… This will be SO beneficial. I am excited for my kids to have this opportunity.”
