Ybarra is a member of the ECU College of Education’s Student Veterans’ Resource Alliance (SVRA), which serves student veterans interested in becoming educators. The SVRA provides student veterans with opportunities in leadership, resource assistance, advocacy, professional development, and outreach. Since 2016, the SVRA has expanded service beyond the initial program area to reach student veterans and engage faculty and staff across the College of Education.

Ybarra said transitioning from the military to the classroom was a natural move for him.

“From the moment I ‘toed the line’, I was teaching somebody something,” he said.

The veteran history education major is scheduled to begin the first portion of his clinical teaching internship in the fall of 2018.

For more information about SVRA or how you can become involved, contact Dr. Allen Guidry, associate professor of history education at guidrya@ecu.edu, or Clay Smith, SVRA co-chair, at smithclay@ecu.edu.
