State Teacher of the Year Stops by ECU College of Education
The East Carolina University College of Education hosted Lisa Godwin, the 2017 North Carolina Teacher of the Year for two events on Monday, Oct. 30. Godwin, who is a kindergarten teacher at Dixon Elementary School in Onslow County, was named the North Carolina Teacher of the Year in August 2017. In her new role as North Carolina Teacher of the Year, Godwin serves as an ambassador for teachers across the state to the NC General Assembly and NC Board of Education, as well as speaking at events like those at ECU on Monday.
Godwin spent the morning speaking with teachers who are part of the College of Education’s network of clinical teaching partners. The teachers gathered for the event were those primarily from eastern North Carolina who have ECU teacher candidates helping teach their classes as part of their teacher training. While the teachers were attending the event with Godwin at the Murphy Center on Monday those ECU teacher candidates served as their substitutes.
In the afternoon, Godwin spent time speaking with the ECU College of Education Scholars, College of Education Living-Learning Community students, and other teacher education students in the Croatan Green Room. With a audience full of hopeful future teachers, Godwin’s afternoon presentation outlined what the students could expect to encounter during their first year on the job.
Both events were organized by the College of Education’s Office of Professional Development and Student Outreach, and free for all attendees.
