East Carolina University alumnus and Pitt County Schools Superintendent Dr. Ethan Lenker was named the 2017-2018 North Central Regional Superintendent of the Year by the Central Carolina Regional Education Service Alliance on June 27. Lenker was selected for the award by his fellow superintendents within the Central Carolina Regional Education Service Alliance.

Lenker received his Doctorate in Education in Educational Leadership from ECU in 2006, and was appointed as the Pitt County Schools superintendent in July 2013.

As superintendent, Lenker has proven to be a valuable partner for the ECU College of Education, said Dr. Vivian Covington, ECU Executive Director of Undergraduate Affairs and Educator Preparation.

“Dr. Lenker leads Pitt County Schools effectively and innovatively,” Covington said. “His support of the College of Education’s rich clinical practice programs has enabled us to be creative and innovative in our work as well. Pitt County Schools and the College of Education have over 100 years of education partnerships and having Dr. Lenker at the reins continues to propel us forward.”

After winning the regional award, Lenker now is eligible to win the North Carolina Superintendent of the Year award for 2017-2018, which will be announced at the North Carolina School Board Association’s annual conference this November.
