Dr. Allen Guidry named interim assistant dean in the College of Education
I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Allen Guidry has agreed to accept the new position of interim assistant dean

in the College of Education.
Dr. Guidry is an eastern North Carolina native and an alumnus of East Carolina University (BS, 1995 and MAEd, 2002). An award winning teacher in the region for more than a decade, Dr. Guidry came to East Carolina University’s College of Education in 2006 after earning his Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As an associate professor and program coordinator for History Education in the Department of Literacy Studies, English Education, and History Education, Dr. Guidry has built a reputation for fostering collaborative partnerships within the ECU College of Education and with colleges and departments across campus. He was honored in 2014 as a UNC Board of Governors Distinguished Professor for Teaching and is a 2016-2017 COE Faculty Leadership Fellow. Dr. Guidry commented about his new role, “In the coming years East Carolina University’s College of Education will confront identity challenges as we prepare our region’s citizens to access economic and cultural opportunities. The story of this charge will seal our national reputation for educational innovation in diverse rural contexts and will require us to look globally for solutions. It will also fulfill our historic mission – one that I am excited to help forward.”
The assistant dean will support units/divisions in fostering excellence in programming and partnerships to strategically increase the college’s impact and visibility. Allen will work with departments to increase visibility of exemplary programs and faculty and will work with the Rural Education Institute (REI) to amplify the impact of the college on the region. This position will assist in leading the university’s and college’s efforts to raise its global profile and assist in enhancing the college’s global connections and internationally focused resources in conjunction with the seven priorities set by the Office of Global Affairs. In addition, the position will assist in leading the college’s efforts to address and support the priorities of the UNC system, ECU, and the College of Education.
