Innovative University: the Advanced Degree Programs International Educators Need and Deserve
College of Education faculty members presented at the AASSA (Association of American Schools in South America) Educator’s Conference in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil on March 31 and April 1. Dr. Matthew Militello, Wells Fargo Distinguished Professor of Educational Leadership; Dr. Len Annetta, Taft Distinguished Professor of Science Education; and Dr. Daniel Dickerson, Associate Professor of Science Education led a session, “Innovative University: The Advanced Degree Programs International Educators Need and Deserve.”

“International educators face unique challenges as consumers of advanced degrees,” said Dr. Annetta. “These challenges include seeking degrees from accredited universities, finding a program designed for full time professionals and contact with faculty members.”
During the session, the COE faculty members provided information on the advanced degrees available to international educators through East Carolina University and other institutions. Participants also engaged in activities designed to help them inform institutions of higher learned about the programs they needed and what the design of those programs should look like.
Currently, Dr. Militello has an Ed.D program in Ed Leadership in Bangkok, Thailand and is exploring expansion options in South America. The College of Education’s Math, Science and Instructional Technology Department already offers an online MAED and that may fit the needs of AASSA educators teaching STEM courses.
