Literacy Studies and Special Education
The Department of Literacy Studies and Special Education at ECU prepares pre-service and in-service teachers across North Carolina through research-based programs in literacy, special education, and gifted education.
The Literacy Education program supports K–12 reading instruction and includes an online Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) in Reading and Literacy Education, designed to prepare educators for advanced reading licensure and expert practice. The Special Education program offers initial teacher licensure in General or Adapted Curriculum, and advanced licensure through the online Master of Arts in Education (MAEd) in Special Education, with four concentration areas: Intellectual Disabilities, Learning Disabilities, Emotional/Behavioral Disorders, and Low Incidence Disabilities.
