Applying for AIG Certificate

Please keep in mind:
- Application fees do not transfer; be sure to choose the program that best fits your needs prior to applying.
- Add-on through NC DPI is for teaching licensure only. While all qualified undergraduate and graduate students interested in learning more about gifted education are welcome to enroll in the certificate, only actively licensed NC teachers with a professional educator’s license are eligible for the AIG add-on.

Undergraduate Certificate:
- Fill out the Interest Form on the AIG website.
- Complete the Undergraduate Certificate application and pay the current application fee of $75. To complete the application, provide the Office of Undergraduate Admissions a sealed official transcript indicating a conferred bachelor’s degree.
- Online at Direct-Entry Undergraduate Certificates
- Complete the undergraduate admissions certificate interest form as the first step of the certificate application.
- After submitting the form, create an account using the same email for the undergraduate admissions portal. An application will be started for you.
- Be sure to use the same email on the interest form, the account, and the application.
- Complete the remainder of the application and pay the application fee.
- ECU can receive electronic transcripts through Parchment and National Students Clearinghouse; check with your college/university’s registrar’s office to see if online transmission is possible. Mailed official transcripts should be addressed to: Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Mailstop 517, East Carolina University, Greenville, NC 27858-4353.
- To register for classes, contact Angela Novak via email at novaka17@ecu.edu with your Banner ID number (a number that begins B00XXXXXX; this information can be found in your self-service center or in your automated newly admitted student email you receive) and which courses you wish to be registered for in the upcoming semester. You can copy/paste the following, filling in the bolded italicized sections: “I, first & last name, B0XXXXXXX, give Angela Novak permission to register me for the following courses for fall/spring/summer, year“
Graduate Certificate:
- Fill out the Interest Form on the AIG website:
- Visit the Equity, Advocacy & Leadership in Gifted and Talented Education certificate page on the Graduate School’s website.
- Review the application deadlines (fall, spring, summer) and requirements and gather these materials:
- completed application fee
- application fee
- official transcripts for all colleges/universities attended
- statement of purpose

- Create your account, and then change your password. After you have set your password, you will be directed to the Graduate School Online Portal. If you have trouble receiving this email, please contact the Graduate School at gradschool@ecu.edu. If you previously applied to ECU as a graduate student and you already have an account, you can login and start a new application.
- In the Graduate School online portal, click on the “Apply” tab and then “Start a New Application.” Select:
- Application type: New Graduate Applicant
- What type of degree: Certificate
- What program: Equity, Advocacy, and Leadership in Gifted and Talented Education
- Select your term: only terms with an available application will populate
- You will be required to pay your $75.00 application fee before you can fully submit your application. Please request official transcripts from every college or university where you completed seven or more hours. Photocopies may not be submitted. Have your official transcripts sent electronically through a secure transcript service such as Parchment, E-Script or National Students Clearinghouse to gradschool@ecu.edu.
- Finally, after you have been admitted as a non-degree student, please email Dr. Angela Novak at novaka17@ecu.edu with your Banner ID number (a number that begins B00XXXXXX) and your ECU email address for course registration purposes. This information can be found in your self-service center or in your automated newly admitted student email you receive. Please indicate in the email which course(s) you would like to register for in the upcoming semester. You can copy/paste the following, filling in the bolded italicized sections: “I, first & last name, B0XXXXXXX, give Angela Novak permission to register me for the following courses for fall/spring/summer, year“
